Hi Rebecca here...
Following on from two previous blogs on the Power of Lemons and the Power of Oranges, here I will concentrate on Cocoa Butter. It is a wonderfully rich and moisturizing ingredient for use in most skincare products. In this blog I am going to show various uses for cocoa butter in our skin care products before finishing off with a free delicious brownie recipe!
Firstly, for the scientifically inclined, it contains a high proportion of oleic, stearic and palmitic acids, as well as antioxidants, vitamins, proteins, minerals and micronutrients, including selenium. It is easily absorbed and penetrates deep into the skin helping to re-hydrate and protect, as well as even out skin tone and improve skin texture.
You will find this fantastic organic butter as a base ingredient in our ‘Bug Repellent Bars’ (that nourish your skin whilst repelling bugs, isn’t that great!), along with other organic base ingredients such as Shea butter and US beeswax (also with natural, low SPF properties-more on that later), very unlike so many bug repellent sprays that consist of water and cheap alcohol which will only dehydrate and dry out your skin; the last thing you want to be applying to yourself regularly outside when you’re also open to all the elements.
You will also find Cocoa butter in our 'Chamomile Lotion Bar' (ideal for applying jet lag and to baby’s skin after bathing) and our musky 'Sandalwood Lotion Bars' (that help promote sleep), as well as our ‘Lavender Body Butter’and our 'Botanical and Herbal Hair Conditioners', that also contain a whole host of deluxe moisturizing, detangling and hair softening properties.
What is also wonderful about Cocoa butter, is its rich chocolate scent, that combines so well with refreshing, yet relaxing, peppermint in our ‘Peppermint Foot Massage Lotion Bars’. With massage dimples (they smell so delicious you just want to eat them) and they’re so reasonably priced they’d make a wonderful and very unique gift that is suitable for both men (if you’re looking for something different for Father’s Day) and women!
What’s more, Cocoa butter in chocolate is said to raise endorphin and serotonin levels in the brain to instantly improve your mood. What better excuse for a delicious Chocolate Brownie Recipe, with rich, dark chocolate of course - straight out of an American magazine (Americans definitely know how to make good brownies with half a pound of butter and five eggs-how could it not be good- and this one can easily be made Gluten free by substituting the plain flour for Gluten free flour)!
Best wishes and happy cooking,
